Corps: Land forces, air force (except naval aviation), coast service, NKVD troops, border guards. Lieutenant Lyutoy Ivan Sergeevich served in a Separate Working Battalion as a company commander. He was drafted to the Red Army in October 1941. In the battles for the Soviet Homeland, he was seriously wounded in the stomach. While commanding a mortar platoon that was part of the 239th Guards Rifle Regiment of the 76th Guards Rifle Division, he showed a heroic combat feat in the area of the village of Malinovka, Bolkhovsky district, Oryol region on July 25, 1943. The combat task was to capture Malinovka village, Orel region, then move to the village of Lipovka, capture the highway Mtsensk – Orel and cut off escape routes for Mtsensk group of Germans. Guards Lieutenant I. S. Lyutoy has assumed command of the mortar platoon of the penalty unit and stormed Malinovka village, timely captured the highway Mtsensk-Orel. He completed the combat task with honor. It was destroyed up to 50 German soldiers and officers and served as a complete defeat of the Mtsensk group of Germans. In this battle, Guards Lieutenant Lyutoy Ivan Sergeevich was twice wounded and, despite being seriously wounded, remained in command of the battle. As a result of the injury, he was left as a disabled porson of Group III. He was awarded of the Order of the Patriotic War, 1st class.
