Branch of Troops: Ground Forces, Air Force (except Marine aviation), shore service, NKVD troops, frontier troops. Pavel Ivanovich was served in the 39th Separate battalion of satchel flamethrowers as part of the 14th Assault fighter-sapper brigade of the 2nd Ukrainian front. He took part in the Iassko-Kishinev offensive (August 20-29, 1944). He has received three commendations for the participation in these offencive from the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, Marshal of the Soviet Union J. V. Stalin. The liberation of Hungary began in 1944 on 23rd September with the offensive of the 2nd Ukrainian front. During the successful offensive, Debrecen was liberated. For this he received the fourth commendation of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief on October 20th "For storming the major industrial center of Hungary, the city of Debrecen". In October 1944, he received a concussion and a skull injury. His comrades-in-arms Peter Sitnikov and Mikhail Surin (the squad Commander) saved him. They turned over him to the nurse in the ambulance. He soon recovered and was in the service. In December 1944 Pavel Ivanovich participated in breaking through the heavily fortified enemy defenses north-east of Budapest and crossing the Danube for which he received the fifth commendation of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief. In March-April 1945, the troops of the left wing of the 2nd Ukrainian front participated in the strategic Vienna operation, during which they completed the liberation of Hungary, the Eastern regions of Austria and a large part of Czechoslovakia. During the battles in Hungary, he received two more commendations from the Supreme Commander-in-Chief: March 25th, 1945 for the conquest of the cities of Esztergom, Nesma, Felsogalla and Tatta. March 28th 1945 for the conquest of the cities of Dier and Komarom. The Eighth commendation Pavel Ivanovich has received for the mastery of Austrian cities Floridsdorf and Korneuburg. Pavel Ivanovich had heard the good news of Victory in the Czech lands in the city Beneshev.
