Next January 1943 it was the 709th Anti-Aircraft artillery regiment, machine gun company where he has rank of Sergeant; August 1945 it was the 880th Separate Anti-Aircraft Artillery division, where the Sergeant Kovalev became the weapons Commander; May 1946 he was in the 2016th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Regiment with the rank of Senior Sergeant, battery Sergeant. Summary of his feat: "He participated in the Patriotic War from the first days, and was wounded in the battles for the Motherland. Brave and courage Section Commander, which accounts for two downed enemy aircraft. Being in the infantry formations, during the fights of May 6 and 7, his crew destroyed four enemy machine-gun points and personally he killed three soldiers with a rifle. In a difficult combat situation, he was not lost, showing courage and bravery, serving as an example for others." After the war, he returned to his native village. Married my grandmother. Together they raised 4 children and 8 grandchildren.
