Kozarenko Georgy Iosifovich
Georgy Iosifovich Kozarenko was born in 1919 in Kuban, in the village of Udobnaya, Otradnensky district, to a Cossack family. In 1939, he was drafted into the Red Army and was sent to study at the MPKU (Moscow Infantry Red Banner School named after the RSFSR Supreme Soviet). In October 1941, a Separate cadet regiment was formed from the cadets of the school, headed by commander-Colonel S. I. Mladentsev, Hero of the Soviet Union, and sent to protect the Volokolamsk direction. Next to the cadet regiment, the soldiers of the 316th division of Major-General I. Panfilov and the 2nd cavalry corps of Major-General L. Dovator defended Moscow. On October 29, 1941, the cadets counterattacked the enemy near the villages of Alferovo, Gusevo and Suvorovo, driving them across the Lama river. On this day, Zhora Kozarenko distinguished himself. According to the award sheet (presented to the Order of the Red Banner, awarded the Order of the Red Star by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR in January 1942), near the village of Suvorovo, Zhora, firing from a nahd machine gun, destroyed the enemy's machine-gun crew and in the created situation allowed his unit to withdraw, covering this retreat with machine gun fire. He himself was the last to move to a new position. Further, Georgy Kozarenko participated in the battles for the city of Kalinin. All last-year cadets from a Separate cadet regiment were given the rank of Lieutenant ahead of schedule by the order of the USSR Commissariat of Defense. On 17 August 1943 during the Smolensk offensive operation captain Georgy Iosifovich Kozarenko, the commander of the 9th company of the 885 th KSP 290th SD 10th A Western front, was killed in the battle for the liberation of the village Malakhovka of the Kirov district of Smolensk region and was buried there. Georgy Iosifovich Kozarenko was posthumously awarded the order of the Patriotic War II degree.
