From the commendation list submitted to the title of Hero of the Soviet Union: "Crossing Danube river on November 6, 1944 in the area of Apatin, (Hungary), Kosenkov, under enemy fire, was the first to transport the entire personnel of his roth on fishing boats. Having found a weak section of the enemy's defense, Kosenkov silently crawled to the enemy trenches and accurately threw a grenade, which destroyed the enemy machine gun. Despite heavy machine-gun fire from the enemy's left flank, he threw his company into the enemy trenches and forced hand-to-hand combat. Seizing one section after another, he crawled to the machine gunner up, killed him, and opened fire from the captured machine gun. Breaking through the enemy's defenses, Kosenkov boldly moved forward, pursuing the retreating enemy, breaking it into small groups and destroying them. Finding a threat from the right flank, he entered into an unequal battle. Firmly held the conquered bridgehead, which ensured the movement of other units to the enemy shore and expand of the bridgehead." From the memories of Peter Georgievich (31.01.1966, edited 19.09.2007 by the daughter, Reva-Kosenkovs V. P.): "As soon as our boats left the shore, the enemy opened a hurricane of artillery and mortar fire, and we were continuously bombed by aircraft from above. When I reached the middle of the Danube, a shell hit the boat in which I was travelling with the sappers, and it began to sink. Among 24 soldiers, who sailed in the boat, only three left alive, including me." In May 1946, major Peter Georgievich retired to the reserve.
