Korepanov Nikolay Kirillovich

Before the war, he worked as a projectionist. Was married. His wife's name was Alexandra Yakovlevna. He called her Shura, Shurochka. He was called up in 1942, when he already had 4 children. My mother (his daughter) was not even 1 year old when he was taken to the war. He died on 16.02.1944. We didn't know anything about his front-line life until 1989, when the Belarusian "search engine" Yevgeny Ivanov wrote to us from Gomel. From his letter, we learned that he spent the last battle in Belarus in Sirotinsky district (now Shumilinsky). He was a part of the tank landing. In December 1943, he was among the first ones, who broke into Gorodok, the district center of Vitebsk region - he was awarded for this action the order of the red star and received a wristwatch from General Bagramyan. His name is listed in the encyclopedia "Memory" (chronicle of Shumilinsky district of the Belarusian SSR), published in Minsk in 1985 (page 408). This reference book also contains information about his burial in the village of Yazvino, Shumilinsky district, in a mass grave. Several letters/envelopes sent by him from the war have been preserved. Just a few from his letters: 07.06.1943. "Good day, Shura, a letter from your husband Kolya..., I saw how they are living in the collective farm (note-Kozonika district), it's even creepy to see: 42 houses, and 8 working horses. They try to plow on cows and bulls. Only women.... Shura, when I receive a letter, I am so happy, but when I think about the life in the villages, I feel so sad. How will you feed us (approx. - soldier), Shura, if you live like this?! Please write letters more often. ... Say hi to all the guys. Getting the letters, I feel alive, I kiss, I hug". 07.01.1944 " Good day, Shura. A letter from your husband. I have received your letter, I thank you so much. .. Shura, I am resting now, I got a wound in my eyes with a small fragment, I can't see well. I'll probably wear glasses. I sent you a transfer of 500 rubles, my two-month earnings, as a gift for the guys for, at the front we do not need money. Kolya."
