The Regiment retreated towards Belarus, where it was surrounded and almost completely lost. With a small group of soldiers he came out of the encirclement of the Bryansk forests of Belarus. My grandfather told me how they starved in the encirclement but they did not surrender, even without any connection with others. There was a damaged tank In one Belarusian village occupied by the Germans .At night, risking their lives, they pulled out a radio from the tank. He took out the banner of the Regiment from the encirclement, for which he was later awarded the Order of the ""Red Star"".Thanks to the preserved banner, the Regiment was re-formed in the Krasnaya Polyana area. He carried out communication across the river on an amphibious vehicle in the battles on the Oder river in Germany. The vehicle was hit by a shell, it almost sank and he had to stand on a battered car in waist-deep water, under enemy bullets and shells for many hours to keep in touch with the Regiment.
