Alexey Bogolov

Rank: Corporal Branch of service: Artillery My second grandfather (on my mother's side) was called Alexey Bologov. My grandfather was born on 03.09.1911 in the village of Voin-2, Mtsensk District, Orel Region. He was drafted into the army in 1941 by the Shchekinsky District Military Commissariat, Tula Region. Got into 171 Anti-tank fighter Regiment of the 18th Separate Anti-tank Artillery Division, member of the gun crew. Anti-tank artillery that were those who directly on the front line meet the enemy's armor and manpower "nose to nose". In army jargon, such artillery crews were called "suicide fighters". Grandfather distinguished himself in the battles of the 2nd Baltic Front from December 31, 1944 to January 3, 1945 in the district of Muldain (Switzerland). From award order #2/n: during fierce counterattacks under destructive artillery and mortar fire of the enemy, risking his life, he brought shells to the gun that fired direct fire, thanks to which 6 enemy counterattacks were repulsed. Worthy of the Medal For Bravery. Later, he liberated the capital of Czechoslovakia, the city of Prague, where he met a Great Victory in the rank of Corporal. After demobilization, he created a family, raised two daughters (one of whom is my mother) and worked on the restoration of the national economy of the country. Grandfather received the order of the Patriotic War 1st degree (to the 40th anniversary of Victory) in 1980. He had many medals for anniversaries. By nature, grandfather was calm, taciturn, kind. He liked silence and read a lot, especially documentaries and soldiers' memories of the war. He was an avid mushroom picker and lover of collecting hazelnuts, knew many "hot" places in Tula, Orel and other regions. It is a pity that when he was alive, I made few attempts to talk to him about his youth, the war years. I consider him a true hero and patriot, as well as all those who fought for the freedom and independence of our Motherland!
