Savchuk Galina Gavrilovna (maiden name - Chesnokova) was born on February 14, 1921 in the city of Zlatoust, Chelyabinsk region. After graduating from school number 8 and the Zlatoust pedagogical school, she returned to school number 8. She worked as a teacher of Russian language and literature. In January 1942, she was voluntarily sent to Moscow to attend courses for junior political workers. After graduation, she was sent to serve in the political department of the 69th separate naval rifle brigade, which was part of the 7th separate army of the Karelian Front, which defended the borders along the Svir River. Later, before the start of the Svirsk-Petrozavodsk offensive operation in 1944, the brigade conducted an active defense on the Svirsk defensive line. In March 1944, the 7th separate army as part of the Karelian Front began to actively prepare for offensive battles. During the Svir-Petrozavodsk offensive operation, the brigade liberated Svyatozero, Pryazha, Kindasovo and Essoila from the enemy. They began the operation on 06/19/1944. Being in the first echelon of the army, the brigade fought to eliminate the enemy bridgehead on the left bank of the Svir River near the village of Svir-3. On the night of June 20-21, 1944, the city of Svirstroy was liberated. Having forced the Svir River in the Ascension area, the brigade continued to pursue the retreating enemy along the right bank in the direction of the town of Lodeinoe Pole. For active participation in the preparation of the operation and displayed courage, Lieutenant G.G. Chesnokova was awarded the medal "For Military Merit". After the completion of the Svir-Petrozavodsk operation, in mid-September 1944, the brigade was transferred to the Polar region to the Murmansk direction to the Kola station, from where, from 10/07/1944, as part of the 127 light rifle corps of the 14th army of the Karelian Front, took part in the Petsamo-Kirkinesk offensive operation ... For bravery and perseverance, the brigade's personnel was awarded government awards, incl. Lieutenant G.G. Chesnokova - the medal "For the Defense of the Soviet Arctic". In January 1945, the light infantry corps and their brigades were reorganized into mountain rifle corps, and at the beginning of February the 69th separate mountain rifle Pechenga Red Banner Order of the Red Star brigade, consisting of the 127 light mountain rifle corps, entered the 38th Army of the 4th Ukrainian Front. From February to May 20, 1945, the brigade conducted continuous offensive battles in Poland, Germany and Czechoslovakia. In March 1945, the brigade took part in the Moravian-Ostrava offensive, fought fierce battles for Moravian Ostrava, then liberated Stermberg. In late March - early April 1945, the brigade's units took part in the liberation of cities and towns in the Silesian Voivodeship of Poland. 69 Pechenga Mountain Rifle Red Banner Orders of Bogdan Khmelnitsky and the Red Star Brigade of 127 Light Mountain Rifle Red Banner Corps of the 1st Guards Army ended the war by participating in the Prague operation on May 12, 1945 in the city of Pardubice in the vicinity of Prague.
