Ivan Dmitrievich Medvedkov was born on June 29, 1914 in the village of Putyatino, Putyatinskaya volost, Sapozhkovsky District of the Ryazan Province. During the Great Patriotic War, he was conscripted by the Putyatinsky Regional Military Committee of the Ryazan Region on July 5, 1942 and enlisted as a Rifleman in the 3rd Separate Anti-tank Fighter Brigade of the reserve of the main command in the company of machine gunners. He received his first baptism of fire in the battle for the Kursk Bulge, where there were fierce battles with the German-fascist invaders. The battle was unequal, but despite the obvious superiority of the enemy in combat equipment and manpower, the enemy did not break through our defense. On July 1-2, 1943, acting as a Sergeant of a Company of machine gunners, he participated in the battles to liberate the village of Teploye in the Kursk Region. In two days, the Company knocked out 8 tanks and destroyed a large number of Germans. Personally, comrade Medvedkov destroyed about 7 sub-machine guns. For these combats, he was awarded the medal For Courage. From 5 to 9 July 1943, he participated in the battles in the area of the station Ponyri of the Kursk Region. In this area, up to 300 enemy tanks were concentrated against the 3rd Fighter Brigade, supported by artillery and mortar fire. A company of machine gunners was shot down over 20 tanks and destroyed a lot of enemy manpower. Personally, I. D. Medvedkov was destroyed by more than 10 sub-machine guns and hit one tank with an anti-tank grenade, at the same time he was heavily concussed. For these efforts, he was awarded the order of the Red Star. _x000D_ After recovering, he returned to his military unit and continued to participate in the combats to liberate the cities and villages of this country from the German-fascist invaders. _x000D_ In 1944, he participated in the battles for Belarus, participated in the liberation of the cities of Pruzhany, Bobruisk, Minsk, Brest, acting as a Platoon Commander. Ivan was again awarded the order of the Red Star for the destruction of a platoon of 12 enemy tanks and more than 60 sub-machine guns. He received the third order of the Red Star for the liberation of the city of Warsaw in 1945, where their platoon destroyed 11 tanks and more than 70 sub-machine guns. Personally, he destroyed 14 German sub-machine guns. He was awarded the order of the Patriotic War 2nd degree on June 9, 1945 for ensuring timely preparation of operational staff documents in hard combat conditions under continuous artillery fire and uninterrupted bombing from the air, which did not affect the successful completion of the combat mission of the High Command For Capture of Berlin. _x000D_ Particularly fierce and bloody battles took place in the city of Berlin, where the Nazis fought desperately for every house, room and basement. In these combats, the soldiers and commanders of the military unit heroically fought and repelled several times a day attacks by tanks and infantry, destroying 15-20 tanks and a lot of enemy manpower. _x000D_ Ivan Medvedkov finished his military service as the Head of the Staff's Records Department with the rank of Guards Sergeant Major. He was discharged from the army on February 16, 1946. Since August 1946, he had worked as Chief Accountant of the Putyatinsky branch of the State Bank. He passed away on May 30, 1987.
