BACKGROUND: My father, Dmitry Semyonovich Zhuravlov, was born on October 5, 1919 in Kuibyshev region, in Utyovka village. In 1931 the family of my father (he was 11 years old) was expropriated and sent to Karaganda. In 1942, on June 27, 1942, he was mobilized by the Kirov Rayvoenkomatom of Karaganda to work in the paramilitary guard of the Railway Station Sortirovochnaya as a fighter. The paramilitary guard of the Ministry of Railway Transport was assigned with the following duties: protection of cargo in station parks and on the way, fire fighting and preventive work at the railway junction facilities and in the residential sector. Six months later, in January 1943, my father was transferred as an assistant to the head of the paramilitary guard team. In February 1944, he was transferred to the 4th guard team, and in December 1944, he was appointed head of the fire department. It should be said that during the war and until 1962 the workers of the paramilitary guard were military, they wore military uniforms, epaulets, command staff had titles and weapons. Children's memories keep an image of my father in an officer's cap, galiph, chrome boots and a gymnast with officer belts on his waist and over his shoulder, and with a holster on his side. I was very proud of him! After the end of the WWII, my father stayed in the paramilitary guard and retired with the rank of colonel. He has government awards and honors. He died in 2008. During the war my mother, Ksenia Zhuravleva (1920 - 2004), also worked in the paramilitary guard of the Ministry of Railway Station Karaganda Sortirovochnaya as a fighter.
