He worked as a tractor driver at the Uisk state farm. From the mid-1930s he lived in the village of Kryzhanovka, where he worked as a tractor driver and combine operator on the collective farm "May Day" of the Larinsky village council of the Uisk district (until 1932). In 1932-1935 he worked at the Zlatoust Machine-Building Plant in the steel workshop. After completing the combine harvester courses in Verkhneuralsk (1936), he was an assistant foreman. In the Red Army since July 1941, in the active army since November 1941. Member of the CPSU (b) / CPSU since 1943. The gun commander of the 227th artillery regiment (70th Infantry Division, 43rd Army, 3rd Belorussian Front) Sergeant Sergei Zernin in the battles for Konigsberg (now Kaliningrad) with the calculation of his own gun, on April 5-9, 1945, destroyed 3 guns, 4 easel and light machine guns with crews, 2 observation posts, 2 vehicles with military cargo, up to two companies of enemy infantry, which contributed to the successful advancement of rifle units. On April 9, the enemy counterattacked the artillery positions. The gun crew was out of action, and the commander was wounded, but did not leave the battlefield. Standing at the gun, he fired until a counterattack was repelled. After the war he was demobilized, returned to his homeland and lived in the village of Kryzhanovka. He worked as a gamekeeper, was elected chairman of the village council, was the party organizer of the branch of the state farm "Kundravinsky". He died on January 18, 1989, and was buried in the village of Kryzhanovka, Chebarkul District, Chelyabinsk Region The title of Hero of the Soviet Union was awarded on April 19, 1945.
