Our grandfather and great-grandfather, Lieutenant of the Red Army Boris Semyonovich Astafyev, was born on May 13, 1911 in the village of Abai, Gorno-Altai Autonomous Region, into a large family with 8 children (6 sons and 2 daughters). He died on November 20, 1976 in the city of Frunze (Kyrgyzstan). Our grandfather came to the North-Western Front in 1942 after the Shot course in the Volga Military District. Throughout the war, he was the commander of a machine-gun platoon, company. Unfortunately, the entries in the military card are not clear: numbers and dates, the names of places and settlements are not. Our grandfather took Konigsberg in 1945. After that, he was sent to serve in the Far East in the 39th Army of the Primorsky Military District, where he served as a deployer. The war with Japan was not easy either. Our grandfather had several severe injuries. For about 9 months in 1943 he was in hospital No. 3696 with severe wounds to the head and lower limbs. There were also lighter wounds later. Of the awards preserved in the family: 2 Orders of the Red Star, a medal for the capture of Konigsberg, a medal for a victory over Germany, a medal for a victory over Japan. He suffered many military hardships. In winter, he took the soldier out of the encirclement, froze in the trench. He starved with the soldiers, buried comrades killed by the Nazis. He passed all the tests, like most of the Red Army soldiers. The Astafiev family gave 5 sons to fight the Nazis. Senior - Matvey before the war perished in the camps of the GULAG, Alexander and Fyodor died from the German fascists, Grigory returned from the front very sick and soon died.
