When the war began he was 16 years old. Together with his friend Alexander Chugukov, he fled to the front on August 20, 1941. Both comrades were enrolled in the school of communications. In 1942, Vasily Grigorievich turned 17 and at such a young age he took part in the Battle of Stalingrad. He received his baptism of fire as part of the 62nd Army, commanded by Lieutenant General Vasily Ivanovich Chuikov. In the battle of Stalingrad, history happened to him. In the dugout, he was assigned an important task. But when he returned, instead of a dugout, he found a huge crater. The commander, having sent Vasily Grigorievich on a mission, thereby saved his life. In this battle, he was wounded and lost his close friend. Subsequently, Vasily Grigorievich was awarded the medal "For the Defense of Stalingrad". After the Battle of Stalingrad, he took part in the operation "Barration" for the liberation of Belarus, during which the German group "Center" was defeated. Then Vasily Grigorievich, as part of the 3rd Belorussian Front, advanced on Konigsberg from the east. From 6 to 9 April, the troops of the front conducted the Konigsberg operation, as a result of which they captured the fortress city of Konigsberg (now Kaliningrad). For participation in this operation, he was awarded the medal "For the capture of Konigsberg". A little later, the medal "For the victory over Germany and the Order of the Red Star." He graduated from the war with the rank of sergeant, in the military accounting specialty - a specialist in field cable lines and as a squad leader. On December 6, 1948, Vasily Grigorievich married Anna Petrovna Kartamysheva. Subsequently, they had 2 daughters: Ilyukhina Galina Vasilievna (01/07/1951) and Ilyukhina Lyudmila Vasilievna (10/05/1953). After the war, people went to work, to rebuild their country. Vasily Grigorievich worked at the Tushino plant of the Molniya Scientific and Production Association. He was a milling cutter (his civilian specialty). Participated in the creation of the spacecraft "Buran" and was awarded the Order of Labor Glory. Buran made its first and only space flight on November 15, 1988, but Vasily Grigorievich did not find out about it. He passed away on April 2, 1983.
