Kurilov Sergey Ivanovich
Title: Red Army man. Troops: Artillery. Sergei Ivanovich Kurilov - a man with a beautiful soul. He was born on September 23, 1918 in the village Terebreno Grayvoron County, Kursk Province. In the family, he was the eldest child, and so from a young age he helped his parents: grazed livestock and looked after six younger brothers and sisters, studied at elementary school. When Seryozha turned 12, he entered the factory seven-year-long school in Krasnaya Yarug. He studied better than others, for which he was awarded the badge "For excellent study and good behavior”. After school, he began his working life. Seryozha was hired as a salesman at a kiosk, and he dreamed to study further. When he turned 15, he entered the Orlov Industrial College, where he met Rybalkin D.D., who became his lifelong friend. Studying was easy, but the possibilities of an able student, his love of mathematics remained unfulfilled, and Sergey began to look across the street at the beautiful building of the Pedagogical Institute, where there was a Work Faculty. Sergei left his classes at the technical school and entered the Work Faculty. He received a secondary education in one year and was enrolled in the Pedagogical Institute. It was difficult to study, out of 141 rubles of the scholarship it was necessary to save money to help the family, which was experiencing difficult days at that time. Years went by. In 1937, a new teacher came to work in Ilek-Kosharskaya seven-year-long school, where he taught mathematics and was a class teacher. 1939 was rich in important events in the life of Sergei Ivanovich: he was accepted as a candidate for the CPSU and met his fate - Evdokia Ivanovna. He went hand in hand with her all his life. And in the same 1939, together with his young wife, Sergei Ivanovich was sent to work at Elm High School as a director. His experience as a director at the Vyazovskaya school was not long - by that time the government had issued a decree abolishing conscription benefits and in the autumn of 1939 Sergei Ivanovich joined the Red Army. The young math teacher, who already had experience as a school director, served in the air defense troops of the Kiev Military District. He hoped to return home soon. But life ruled in its own way and on June 22, 1941, on the border, where Sergey served, he was captured by the war. His service to his homeland continued, but now he was on the front roads. Sergei Ivanovich served for 7 years, 4 of which were at war with fascist occupiers. His front biography began on the South-Western front in the 307th separate anti-aircraft artillery division on the border with Poland in the Jaworskiye forests. He fought at the Stalingrad, Central and 1st Byelorussian fronts. The war ended for him on May 2, 1945. Until now, his acute memory stores a four-year period of endless bloody battles. Sergei Ivanovich recalls the beginning of the war as follows: "In 1941 I served in Proskurov, Vinnitsa region. It was summer. Our unit was transferred to a summer camp. There were usual days. The crew was located in Yavorovo, where they conducted exercises. At that time I was the commander of the instrument room. We were standing in the forest, without any signs, and there was a peaceful training work. On Saturday, June 21, we went to the bathhouse, by midnight we came to the unit and everything was quiet. Somewhere in the beginning of the fifth in the morning of June 22 sounded the alarm, everybody ran to the testing ground and some tension was felt. About 15 minutes later the commander came and said "Guys, war!” German planes with black crosses started to fly over our range. They began to bomb our positions, in the first battle three planes were shot down. It was difficult, because the planes had to be hit with guns. The retreat began, two batteries were destroyed, there was not enough ammunition... We started moving towards Lviv, and the battles were already in full swing. We were often surrounded. I especially remember the battle near Sumy, when the enemy tanks were destroyed.” Later, Sergei Ivanovich took part in the defense of the Ukrainian city of Sumy, a major railway hub in Kupyansk. In March 1942, Sergei Ivanovich guarded the Burluk station. It was with bitterness that he had to retreat when Kharkiv's liberation in 1942 failed. The division was disbanded. Sergei Ivanovich got into the reserve of the General Command. I was greatly impressed by Sergei Ivanovich's story about the defense of Stalingrad. On October 19, 1942, the crew was ferried north of the city. The weather was rainy. In order to escape from the Germans' shelling, one had to dig a trench and bury himself and his guns. The soldiers had almost no rest: during the day, planes were shot down, and at night, trenches were dug. The memories of the battles of Stalingrad were especially acute. "Cruel battles," recalls Sergei Ivanovich , "went on the crossing of the Don River. A lot of our fighters were left in that land. It was a terrible price, but still, despite the numerous losses, we reached Stalingrad. It was not just difficult, but impossible: at night the trenches were dug, but only at dawn, a continuous fire rained down on us. Our military unit was awarded the title of the Guards for courage and bravery. It became known as the 13th Guards Mortar Division of the Russian State Mining Company. At the end of the war, the division was awarded the Order of the Red Star. For the defense of Stalingrad, S.I. Kurilov received the first, the most difficult and, therefore, probably the most expensive medal "For Military Merit”. For his participation in the battles near Kursk, he was awarded the Order of the Great Patriotic War, and at the end of the war he received another such order. He has medals: "For the Defence of Stalingrad", "For the Liberation of Warsaw", "For the capture of Berlin", "For the victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945". In 1944 S.I. Kurilov was sent to the courses of junior lieutenants, after which he received a platoon under his command. The war ended, but Sergei Ivanovich was demobilized only in November 1946 and immediately returned home. He returned home again to his favorite job at school. After the end of the school year, during which he worked in Terebreno as a head teacher, Sergei Ivanovich, a young, energetic, intelligent, talented teacher, was invited by the head of the department of education and offered to choose the school that he would like to head. He chose the Grafov School and started a new page of his interesting and difficult life. On August 15, 1947, Sergei Ivanovich became the head of the Grafov School. He immediately plunged into hard teacher's work. It was necessary to think not only about the lessons, but also about teachers and their arrangement. The school was occupied in two shifts - pupils from 10 villages came here. S.I. Kurilov worked tirelessly on all school problems, especially on staffing the school with professional staff. In 1954, his tireless work was marked with the badge "Excellent Educator of the RSFSR". And in 1959 by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet on December 8, 1959 he was awarded the title "Honored Teacher of Schools of the RSFSR”. Year after year, pedagogical experience was accumulated and the most seemingly impossible dreams of creating an existing school model - a cultural center in the village - were realized. In the 70s, Sergey was engaged in the construction of a new school in the village of Grafovka. The old school ceased to meet the growing needs of the village, and on S.I. Kurilov's initiative, construction of a new school began in 1972. Sergei Ivanovich went into all the details of the school construction so that the quality of construction was at the highest level. At the very beginning of the construction he found a loose ground at the very corner of the foundation, where blocks were already laid. The builders had to deepen the foundation by almost a meter. The workers and builders called Sergey Ivanovich "Honored Builder" for that. Both pupils and villagers helped to build the school. After all, everyone understood that without a school the village had no future. From the side of Kurilov Sergei Ivanovich there was a constant daily control. The construction was finished in 1974. The same year, in November, it opened. Now we also study at this great school, which Sergei Ivanovich headed until 1986. His efforts in the field of education were again marked by a high award - in 1979, S. I. Kurilov was awarded the badge "Excellent Educator of the USSR". Numerous letters of commendation, the medal "For Valorous Work" marked the tremendous work of Sergei Ivanovich on the training and education of the younger generation. In 2009 Adian celebrated his 91st birthday. And although, undoubtedly, the years take their toll, he still serves us as an example of a man who lived an interesting and useful life, with the help of iron self-discipline achieving the highest goals. S.I.Kurilov even now has an active life position and leads a healthy lifestyle. At present, S.I.Kurilov lives in Belgorod with his relatives.
