Hero of The Soviet Union Nikolay Sergeev was born on May 9, 1913 in the village of Vylomovo near the town of Lysva. He studied at the school of the village of Mehryakovo in the Lysvensky District and then at secondary school #2. After graduating from the Lysvensky technical school, he worked as a laboratory chemist in the laboratory of the enamelware shop of the metallurgical plant. In 1933, he was drafted into the Red Army. In 1936, he graduated from the Ulyanovsk Red Banner Armored School named after V. Lenin with the rank of Lieutenant. Participated in the defeat of the Japanese aggressors. From the first days of the Great Patriotic War, he participated in battles. He especially distinguished himself in the fierce battles at Stalingrad. In the battles of 9-11 August 1942, the 2nd Tank Battalion of the 133rd Tank Brigade under the command of Major Sergeev destroyed 20 German tanks. The commander with his crew personally destroyed three enemy tanks and was awarded the Order of the Red Banner. By December 1942, Major Sergeyev was in command of the 20th Guards Tank Regiment. On December 16-17, 1942, the regiment of N. Sergeev performed tasks of the command to break through the German defense in the area of the Astakhov farm in the Stalingrad Region. Sergeyev personally led his regiment into battle. In the first attack, the tankers destroyed two artillery batteries, six anti-tank guns and about a battalion of Nazi infantry. In that battle, Sergeyev's tank was hit, but the Major, despite receiving burns to his legs, moved to another tank and led the second attack. In the midst of the battle, Sergeev's tank was hit, and the crew fought until it exploded. By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 31, 1943, Major Nikolai Sergeev was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. Awarded the Orders of Lenin, Red banner. He was buried in a mass grave on the Pronin farm in the Volgograd Region. In the city of Lysva, memorial plaques were installed in memory of the hero at school #2, technical school (College), and the building of the LMZ enamel ware shop. There is a bust on the Alley of Heroes of the memorial of Glory. In 2006, the Russian post issued an artistic stamped envelope in honor of N. Sergeev with a circulation of 500 thousand copies.
