Prokhorov Yakov Antonovich, 06/20/1924 - 05/09/1964. Born in the in Colemass village, Penza region. He was drafted to the front in 1942 and immediately sent to the Leningrad front. Convoy ships for besieged Leningrad. He drove away enemy planes with aimed fire from a machine gun. In June 1944 he took part in the Vidlitsa operation, helping to place amphibious units on the ship. In the fall of 1944, he was appointed commander of a detachment of miners and personally, being exposed to mortal danger, destroyed 23 enemy mines that threatened ships by detonating them. In 1945 he covered 525 miles with trawls. After the war he worked as chairman of a collective farm, and after the foreman of a tractor brigade.
