Eskov Ivan Yegorovich

Rank: First Sergeant. Corps: Land forces, air force (except naval aviation), coast service, NKVD troops, border guards. Ivan is my great-grandmother's brother, he had no direct heirs. After finishing 8th grade, he started to work on a collective farm. He refuels tractors before they went out to the fields. He was very active, cheerful, conscientious and caring not only towards his family, but also to everyone around him. He was very fond of his mother and grandmother, and played a lot with the younger children. When the war began, he came to the military enlistment office to go to the front as a volunteer, but he was left at the military enlistment office to draw up the documents of conscripts, where he safely entered himself in. After leaving his native village and graduating from the school of young commanders at the age of 19, he went to the front. In May 1942, in a battle on the Central front, the commander of the rifle platoon division, Ivan Yegorovich, was wounded. He wrote a letter home that everything was going well, he was recovering quickly and would soon be in line to liberate his Homeland from the Nazi invaders. After recovering in the hospital, he was sent to the Stepnoy front, participated in the battles on the Kursk bulge, crossed the Dnieper river, and as part of the 1st Belorussian front he participated in operation “Bagration’ to liberate Belarus. In 1943, he joined the party and became a Communist. He liberated Bobruisk, Baranovichi, Slutsk, Minsk, Rogachev, Zhlobin, crossed the Berezina, Vistula, and Narew rivers, and liberated the Polish cities Chelm and Lublin. On September 4, 1944, acting as part of a tank landing, Sergeant Eskov was one of the first to overcome the Narew river, near the Drozdow river (Poland), and with a group of fighters captured the enemy's trench, undermined the firing point that shelled the crossing, so at the cost of his life he completed the combat task. Ivan was buried in the village of Grodno, Bialystok Voivodeship (Poland). For courage and bravery in battle, he was awarded of two medals "For Combat Service", the Order of the Red Banner and the Order of Lenin. By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on March 24, 1945, the assistant platoon commander of the 1348th rifle regiment, Communist Sergeant Ivan Yegorovich Eskov, was awarded of the title the Hero of the Soviet Union posthumously. Petukhov secondary School, where I studied, is named after our hero Ivan Yegorovich Eskov. We also hold an Intercity youth tournament in Greco-Roman wrestling among young men in Petukhovo, dedicated to the memory of the Hero of the Soviet Union Ivan Yegorovich Eskov. In Kurgan, near the "Eternal flame", there is a memorial plaque with the names of heroes of the Soviet Union who lived in the Kurgan region. So there is mixed initials of our great-grandfather Ivan Egorovich Eskov written as Eskov E. I.
