Kiryakov Vasily Fedorovich
Commander of the 1st mortar company of the 438th rifle regiment (129 Orel Red Banner order of Kutuzov rifle division, 40th rifle corps, 3rd army, 3rd Belorussian front), captain. Russian. Graduated from 5th grade. Worked on a collective farm. In 1938, he moved to the city of Krasny Luch. Work on mine. From September 14, 1941-in the Red Army. He graduated from courses for Junior lieutenants. Since November 1941-in the active army. He fought on the Western, North-Western, Bryansk, Belorussian, 2nd and 3rd Belorussian fronts as a platoon commander and mortar company commander. He took part in the defense of Moscow, Demyansk, Starorusskaya, Oryol, Bryansk, Gomel-Rechitsa, Bobruisk, Minsk, Bialystok and East Prussian operations. He was wounded three times in battles. In the battles on the territory of East Prussia (February-March 1945), on February 6, 1945, as the commander of an assault group, he conducted a thorough reconnaissance of an important fortified stronghold near the city of Wormditt, captured it with demonstrative actions from the front and a decisive maneuver in the flank. During the battle, up to 120 enemy soldiers and large trophies were destroyed and 20 captured. The capture of an important German stronghold contributed to the capture of the city of Wormditt. On March 23, during the liquidation of the enemy group near the city of Heiligenbail, he destroyed 3 enemy firing points and several groups of German soldiers with mortar fire. Moving forward together with attacking rifle units, destroyed enemy pockets of resistance. Died in this battle. Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR from June 29, 1945 for exemplary performance of fighting tasks of command at the front struggle with German invaders and displaying courage and heroism of captain Kiriakou Vasily Fedorovich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union posthumously. He was buried in Melzak in East Prussia.
