Kuzmin Ivan Vasilyevich

Kuzmin Ivan Vasilyevich. 06.08.1923-26.03.1999. Born in Petrunino, Volgograd region, Kamyshinsky district. He was drafted into the red army in November 1941 by Kamyshinsky RMC, Stalingrad region, Kamyshinsky district. He served as the commander of the 45 mm gun 674 SP 150 of Idritskaya rifle division of the first Belorussian front. He went through the war from Stalingrad to Berlin, stormed The Reichstag, and was wounded twice. Awarded: - the medal "for the defense of Stalingrad", - the order of the Red Star (February 28, 1945). From the commendation list: "In the battle on February 15-16, 1945 in the area of Yastrov, the gun of Kuzmin always followed the battle lines. In the battle on 16.02.1945 the enemy was pressed against the river and gathered at the crossing. The enemy supported the crossing the river with heavy mortar and machine-gun fire. Despite that Kuzmin dragged the guns through the swampy area on the hands, and shot the panic Germans running across the river with the direct fire. During the battle Kuzmin destroyed more than 30 german soldiers, hit two cars and captured 15 Nazis. Twice awarded the order of “Glory of the III degree.” From the commendation list from May 10, 1945: "on April 30, 1945, Sergeant Kuzmin, as a gun commander, participated in the breakthrough of the German defense in the streets of Berlin and during the storming of the Reichstag destroyed more than 100 Germans and 6 machine-gun nests. He acted boldly and energetically. Worthy of the government award of the order of "Glory of the III degree". From the commendation list from May 15, 1945: Kuzmin participated in the offensive battles on Berlin and in Berlin, conducted by the regiment from April 16 till May 2, 1945. With his gun, he took a firing position up to support the infantry and despite of the strong enemy resistance, killed 19 Hitlerites with fire from his gun, and suppressed the fire of three enemy machine-gun points, which provided opportunity for our infantry to move forward. In the same battle, Kuzmin, under heavy fire from the enemy's artillery, moved forward with his gun and continued to pursue and destroy the Nazis.»
