Bondarev Sergey Petrovich

Branch of service: technical troops (chemical troops, railway troops, avia troops, radio-radar troops, road troops, topographic). The name of my mother Lyudmila Sergeevna's father was Sergey Petrovich Bondarev. He was born on the 23th of September, 1918, in the present-day city of Rossosh, the Voronezh region. When the Great Patriotic War began my grandfather was less than 23 years old. The fate brought him to the Transbaical military district where he did his service in the railway troops. Like all participants in military operations my grandfather did not like to talk about the war, he told me sparingly: "I studied, got a second lieutenant… fought in Manchuria..." For grandfather Sergei the Victory came not as for everyone -- on the 9th of May, 1945, but later – after all, the Act of surrender of Japan was signed only on the 2nd of September, 1945, and only then the war in the Far East was over. For his military career Sergey Petrovich was awarded medals: "Victory over Japan", "For the liberation of Korea from Japanese militarists" as well as orders of the Patriotic War of the second degree and of the Red Star. Subsequently my grandfather was awarded the high title of "Veteran of the railway troops". Grandfather Seryozha liked to talk more about peaceful labor - about how railways were built after the war in the Far East, in Russia and the Northern Korea (my mother was born in 1947 in Pyongyang), and then – on the Black Sea coast (stations in Olympic Sochi, Tuapse and other resorts were my grandfather used to build as well). On the long journey from the Far East to the southern outskirts of Russia grandfather Sergei deserved another medal "For development of virgin lands" (while grandpa lived in Kazakhstan with his family) for his achievements in peacetime. S. P. Bondarev got a badge of an Honorary railwayman. When grandfather Sergey "retired" he continued to actively participate in the public life of the city of Rossosh where he returned after long relocations associated with working on the railways. He was a member of the council of railway veterans, raised with his wife Nina Ivanovna two daughters and us, four grandchildren, taught us kindness and intelligence; it's just a pity that he did not live to see his great – grandchildren - Sergey Petrovich died in January 1987… The bright memory of him! I am proud of my grandfather Sergey Petrovich Bondarev and I am infinitely grateful to him for peace on our land!
