Grade title: a second lieutenant. Branch of service: artillery. It has already been 72 years since the Soviet people won the Victory over Hitler's Germany in the Great Patriotic War. The Victory was won due to the fact that the entire Soviet people contributed to this Victory. One of the participants in the war was my great-grandfather Petr Stepanovich Bulagin whose whole life was devoted to serving the Motherland. My great-grandfather was born on the 14th of June, 1923, in the village of Sosnovka, the Ulyanovsk region, in a peasant family. There were 8 children in the family. He graduated from 8 classes of Ignatovskaya secondary school. In 1940 he entered the Kuibyshev professional technical school. He graduated as a carpenter and worked as a foreman at the Ulyanovsk sawmill for one year. In June 1942 at the age of 19 he was called up into the Red Army. In 1942 and 1943 he participated in the battle of Stalingrad. He was wounded and after recovering in the hospital he entered the first Omsk military infantry school. In 1944 after graduation in the rank of a second lieutenant he left for the front. As a member of the Belarusian front troops he was a platoon commander and then a troop commander. He participated in the battles in East Prussia where he received a second serious wound. After recovery he was in the city of Sverdlovsk in the reserve officer regiment from where in June 1945 he was discharged to the reserve due to injury. After the end of the war he studied at a school of auto mechanics and was sent to the Mari ASSR. There he worked in the police as a senior traffic inspector. In 1950 he got married my great-grandmother Valentina Stepanovna and they lived together until the "Golden" wedding. In 1965 they moved to then developing city of Tolyatti. Great-grandfather got a job as a mechanic at an azotic - fertilizer plant and since the plant needed specialists at that time he was sent as a master of industrial training for technical school no. 52 where he worked until retirement. In retirement Petr Stepanovich worked as an instructor of the DOSSAF (Russian Army, Air Force and Navy Volunteer Society) sports and shooting club until the age of 65. He died in 2003 at the age of 80. For participation in the Great Patriotic War my great-grandfather was awarded the Order of the Red Star, two orders of the Patriotic War and medals (“For Military Merits”, “For the Defense of Stalingrad”, “For the Capture of Konigsberg”, and ”For the Victory over Germany), numerous commemorative medals. And for conscientious and active work on the education of young people he received twenty one certificates and he was awarded the title of Veteran of Labor.
