Bogus Zaurbech Kanovich

Grade of title: a senior sergeant. Branch of service: army, air forces (except for marine aviation), coastal guards, the troops of the NKVD, border troops. After graduating from the Krasnodar pedagogical technical school Bogus Zaurbech Kanovich was called up to the Red Army in 1939. Taking into account his skills in equestrian sports he was selected for the Pskov cavalry training center for junior commanders. He served as the commander of the sabre squad in the 63rd cavalry regiment (Pskov). In January 1940 the regiment was re-formed into the 25th light motorized division which participated in the Soviet-Finnish war. In November 1941 as a regimental scout and part of a motorized rifle unit he got his first combat debut in the Kandalaksha sector of the front. When returning from another raid the group of scouts encountered an enemy patrol. As a result of the battle the patrol was completely destroyed but our troops also suffered losses. Two red army soldiers out of seven were killed and junior sergeant Bogus Z. K. received a number of serious injuries. He was treated and rehabilitated in a military hospital from November 1941 to February 1942 in Siberia (Anzhero-Sudzhensk, the Kemerovo region). After treatment and some rest at home in Kuban he was enlisted in the reserve artillery regiment of the don group of the North Caucasus front. In August and September 1942 the retreating army left for the foothills of the Caucasus. In January - March 1943 Bogus Zaurbech Kanovich as part of the forces of the North Caucasus front (the 9th army) took part in the liberation of Kuban. In September 1943 he took part in the liberation of the Taman Peninsula. In April 1944 he took part in the liberation of Kerch where he received another wound. After the hospital taking into account his state of health he was enlisted in the rear service as the head of the artillery warehouse. He was discharged in November 1946. From 1946 till 1977 Bogus Zaurbech Kanovich, a veteran of the Great Patriotic War, worked as a mathematics teacher at the Assokolay secondary school (the Teuchezhsky district of the Krasnodar territory). He made an invaluable contribution to the formation of Assokolai high school for which he is remembered with great warmth by graduates of the school from different years. He raised five children. In April 1985 at the age of 68 Zaurbech Kanovich died from a severe respiratory illness resulting from multiple injuries.
