Rank: Red Army Soldier. Branch of Service: Armored and Mechanized Troops. Unit: 20th Tank Division My father's family was exiled in 1931 from Bashkiria to a special settlement of Prokopyevsk, Kemerovo Region. He was taken to the army at the age of 18 in December 1943. They sent him to the 289th Reserve Rifle Regiment (this regiment was a part of the 43rd Reserve Rifle Brigade) deployed in Bogotol. He was trained as a sniper. He went to the front in July 1944 to the area of the town of Tulchin, Vinnitsa Regiont, Ukrainian SSR. He was a sub-machine gunnerof the 8th Guards Tank Brigade (part of 20th Tank Corps). My father was a clerk at the headquarters from November 1944 to December 1946 (he had a surprisingly beautiful handwriting). The 20th Tank Corps, which was in the reserve of the Suprime Command (Stavka VGK), relocated and concentrated in the Raudten-Dornbrush area (Germany) in March 1945. The corps' troops carried out a combat mission in April-May 1945 to destroy enemy troops in the area of the city of Glogau (Germany, now Glogow, Poland) and eliminate the breakthrough of German troops to the city of Breslau (Germany, now - Wroclaw, Poland). The troops of the 20th Tank Corps became a part of the garrison of the city of Breslau in June 1945. My father served there in the same unit for another five years (as a storekeeper and a supervisor of the warehouse). He returned home to Prokopyevsk in 1950. He graduated from the mining technical school in 1954, and worked for the M. Kalinin Mine for about 40 years. He met my mother Galina Kungurtseva. Together they raised five children. For excellent work and long service, he was awarded the Miner's Glory badge of three degrees. He died at the age of 83.
