Mother-Elena Vasilyevna came from a family of hereditary nobleman, Vasily Vasilyevich Vasiliev, an official of the Ministry of internal Affairs (Warsaw). On may 20, 1920, the Board of the OGCHK considered the case of V. M. Podoltsev charged with "the service of volunteers and the servility of the Imperial power", decided: "The charge should be considered proven and the capital punishment should be applied — shot, property confiscated." Thus, at the age of 4-5 years, Sergey Vasilyevich was left without a father. Elena Vasilyevna and her son, Sergey Vasilyevich, lived poorly after their father was shot, as their family's property was confiscated. However, Sergey studied diligently. After finishing the 7th grade, Sergey Vasilyevich entered the school of factory production. Sergey Vasilyevich, after graduating from the Federal law from the age of 14 (1930), worked as an electrician in the Odessa printing house on richelevskaya street. In 1941, he graduated from the Kharkiv power engineering College. From June 22, 1941 to December 17, 1944-at the front as part of the 780th separate Telegraph and construction company, and then the 130th Army rifle regiment. Awarded the order of the red Star and the Patriotic War. After a serious injury in East Prussia, he was treated in the evacuation hospital N 1239 in Novosibirsk until the end of 1945. Returning to Odessa, in 1946. he worked as a communications electrician in the Odessa city telephone network, then at the Avtogenmash plant, in the black sea Central design Bureau, at the Epsilon plant. In 1946, he married Valentina Karpovna Savchenko. In the same year, his son Alexander was born (who became a member of the Academy of Sciences of Belarus). Since may 1985 Sergey Vasilyevich is retired. Sergey Vasilyevich Podoltsev died on July 12, 1991, and was buried at the II Christian cemetery in Odessa.
