Dmitry Andreevich Glukhov (November 7, 1906-November 11, 1943) was a captain of the 3rd rank of the Soviet Navy, a participant in the great Patriotic war, and a Hero of the Soviet Union (1944). Dmitry Glukhov was born on November 7, 1906 in the village of Khmelino (now-Cherepovets district of Vologda region) in a peasant family. He finished five grades of Junior high school and worked as a steamboat sailor on the Sheksna river. In 1928, Glukhov was drafted to serve in the Workers 'and peasants' Red Fleet. Since 1929, he served in the Black sea fleet, first on the cruiser "Comintern", then on the patrol boat “Albatross". He was a coxswain, boatswain, assistant commander. Finished the command staff courses. Before the war, he commanded a sea hunter unit. He was on the front from the first day of the Great Patriotic war. Boats of the Glukhov’s unit were the first among the vessels of the Black sea fleet to open fire on the enemy, and later the last to leave Ochakov, Odessa and AK-Mechet. Dmitry Glukhov's unit participated in the defense of Sevastopol, often making crossings to Novorossiysk. Glukhov was seriously wounded in the fighting. After being discharged from the hospital, he became the commander of the 1st division of patrol boats. Participated in the battles for Novorossiysk, Taman Peninsula and Crimea. On the night of October 31 to November 1, 1943, Glukhov's division protected ships that landed troops near the village of Eltigen (now within the city of Kerch). The division's boats supported the paratroopers with fire during their actions on land. Thereafter, Dmitry Glukhov carried out the transfer of new units, ammunition and food across the Kerch Strait to the captured bridgehead. When the division was attacked by enemy ships one night, the crew of Glukhov's boat sank a barge and hit the enemy's boat. On November 8, 1943, while the division's boats were unloading on the Crimean coast, two shells exploded on Glukhov's boat, fatally wounded him. On November 11, Dmitry Glukhov died from his injuries. He was buried in the city of Poti in Georgia. 3rd rank captain Dmitry Glukhov was posthumously awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union for "exemplary performance of command assignments at the front against the German invaders and showing courage and heroism" by the Decree of the Presidium of the USSR Supreme Council of 22 January 1944,. He was also awarded two orders of Lenin, two orders of the Red banner, and the order of Suvorov, 3rd class. Streets in Novorossiysk and Sevastopol are named after Dmitry Andreevich Glukhov, as well as the ship of the Ministry of river fleet.
