He took part in battles during the defense of the North Caucasus (battles in the area of ​​the Shaumyanovsky Pass, defense of the Tuapse direction), the liberation of Crimea (battles for Sapun Gora and the city of Sevastopol), battles for the city of Konigsberg (Kaliningrad). By the order of the regiment dated 10/18/1943 No. 40 / n, he was awarded the medal "For military services". As stated in the order: "Comrade Balabin, working from May 1942 to the present and having passed the combat path in difficult mountain conditions and despite the difficulties, he carried out the command assignments in a timely manner, to deliver mail and combat orders." By order of the regiment of 17.07.1944 No. 45 / n, he was awarded the medal "For Courage".
