When a call went through the country to mobilize young girls to become nurses, radio operators and drivers, she immediately responded to this call and decided to go to the front. However, I didn't dare tell my mother about my decision. She said that she was going to the remzavod in our Republic. In Irkutsk, Maria Tomilova got into school, dressed in military uniform. But the cadets who were not fully trained were transferred to Oka. Here I had to finish my studies and get a driver's license. Of the 300 girls allowed to pass the exams, 56 people received their rights at that time, including Maria. After that, they were sent to the city by Baranovichi. Here she and 8 other girls were assigned to the airfield service battalion (BAO) of the 254th guards’ unit. Their duties included servicing aircraft for refueling with fuel and ammunition. They usually worked at night, carried their dangerous cargo, bombs, in cars of the American brand "fordzon", stopped in the morning and went to rest. They lived in dugouts there, at the airfield. From memories of Maria Togmitovna’s grandmother: "I remember very much when the war ended and the news of the Victory came. My partner Kate Lusanina was on duty in the kitchen making lunch, and we rested. The commander of the political unit, comrade, arrived. Timoshenko, we were alerted, we quickly formed up and we were announced the surrender of Germany. What started here! Everyone started hugging, crying with happiness that they lived to Win. Then the accordion appeared, and everyone began to sing and dance that they forgot about the upcoming dinner. I will never forget these joyful moments." War Maria Tomilova graduated from the rank of corporal. She was awarded the order of the Patriotic war and many commemorative medals, medals "for the victory over Germany", "Veteran of Labor".
