Tulebay Azhimov - participant of the Great Patriotic War, shooter of the 862th rifle regiment of the 197th rifle division of the 3rd Guards Army of the 1st Ukrainian Front, Hero of the Soviet Union (1944), corporal. Tulebay Azhimov was born in 1921 in the village of Mumra, Ikryaninsky District, Astrakhan Region, into a peasant family. In the mid-30s, the Tulebai family was included in the number of kulaks and sent from the Astrakhan steppes to a special settlement in the wilderness of the Tyumen region. The family lived in the village of Cherny Mys, Surgut region. Tulebai worked in a fishing artel. In the Red Army he was drafted in 1942 by the Surgut Military Commissariat of the Omsk Region. He fought on the North-Western, Bryansk, Belorussian and 1st Ukrainian fronts. Distinguished himself in battles when crossing the Vistula River, expanding a bridgehead on its western bank. From the award list [3]: On July 24, 1944, in the battles for the liberation of the city of Krasnostav (Poland), under heavy hurricane artillery-mortar and machine-gun fire, the enemy rushed forward and pursued him. Forcing the river Vepsh on the move, point-blank, shooting the Germans. Bursting into the city ahead of everyone else, Comrade Azhimov liberated house after house, destroying 15 Nazis from his personal weapons. … Noticed a dead comrade who had fallen. He immediately realized that an enemy sniper was at work. Using an eye gauge to determine the house from which the aimed fire was being conducted, Comrade Azhimov, stealthily sneaking up to the house, rushed into it and shot the sniper point-blank, ensuring the battalion was moving forward. On the night of July 31, 1944, under heavy enemy fire, Comrade Azhimov began to cross the Vistula River. Reaching the middle, rifle and machine-gun fire intensified, Comrade Azhimov's boat was pierced, which quickly began to sink. ... Azhimov swam to the left bank and immediately joined the battle to expand the bridgehead. ... After demobilization he lived in Kazakhstan, in the city of Alma-Ata. Served as commandant of an independent paramilitary fire brigade. He died on February 14, 1988. Buried at the central cemetery in Almaty.
