Soloviev Mikhail Georgievich
Rank: Lieutenant, Hero of the Soviet Union
Branch of troops: Aviation
He was born in November 1923 in the village of Klyuchi, now the Volsky District of the Saratov Region. Russian.
He graduated from the High School in the city of Syzran and the Military Aviation School. He had served in the Red Army since June 1941 until the day of his death. Grandfather Mikhail joined the Regiment on 16.07.43 during the Battle of Kursk Bulge. They arrived in a group of 10-12 already formed and trained crews from the 15th Separate Reconnaissance Reserve Aviation Regiment. The arrivals were divided into the 1st and 2nd Reconnaissance Squadrons.
My grandfather got into the 2nd Squadron because of his last name. There is a legendary story that in the 50th ORAP they created a Squadron of pilots with surnames, who were associated with birds. It was somewhere in 1943-1944. The Сhief of Ыйфгвкщт was Sokolov, then Soloviev, Gusev, Orlov, Vorobyov, Golubev, Kulik (the surnames were associated with Falcon, Nightingale, Gus, Hawk, Sparrow, Pigeon, and Sandpiper). Except, Pilot Muravyov (Mr. Ant) flew.
But from August to September, the Regiment underwent a reorganization, and this surname principle was no longer observed, there were losses. Since July 1943 he had been part of the 2nd Air Army on the Voronezh and 1st Ukrainian fronts. The entire combat path passed as part of the 50th (since August 1944 - a Separate Guards) Aviation Regiment. He took part in the Battle of Kursk Bulge, the liberation of Ukraine and the southeastern regions of Poland.
In October 1943, for the excellent performance of 31 sorties and of large and groupings of enemy movements, he was awarded the first military order - the Patriotic War of the 1st degree. By the end of May 1944, he made 122 successful combat Reconnaissance missions. Having perfectly mastered the tactics and techniques of conducting aerial Reconnaissance, he skillfully revealed all the groupings and movements of enemy troops. In days of intense combat work, he flew 2-3 sorties a day. During the period of combat work, he opened up to several thousand tanks, vehicles with cargo, trains at stations, aircraft at airfields.
In June 1944 he was nominated for the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated October 26, 1944, Guard Lieutenant Mikhail Georgievich Solovyov was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal (No. 4290).
On November 23, 1944, the crew of Lieutenant Solovyov's Guard did not return from a combat mission. They took off, probably from the Yezhov airfield (east of Rzeszow, Poland). They dissappeared in the area along the line not to the west of the Krakow-Balice-Naglowice-Deszno airfields. There is probably no more accurate information. The Regiment these days worked in this direction and in this area. He was awarded the Orders of Lenin (10/26/1944), two Orders of the Red Banner (02/07/1944, 06/11/1944), the 1st degree of the Patriotic War (10/27/1943), medals.
