Galuhin Vasily Alexandrovich

Type of troops: Ground Forces, Air Force (except naval aviation), coastal service, NKVD troops, border troops of the Great Patriotic War ... How far the events of those years are from us - the 21st century generation ... But the lessons of the past cannot be forgotten. We must honor the memory of all soldiers who died during the war. One of these soldiers was my great-grandfather Galukhin Vasily Alexandrovich. Galukhin Vasily Aleksandrovich was born in the village of Vedrovo, Yurievetsky district. In 1930 he received land for the construction of houses in the village of Pochinok (Yurievetsky district). There he met his future wife. Everything was good for them: they started a family, built a house, had children. Vasily Alexandrovich worked as a foreman at the Udarnik chemical plant located in a neighboring village. He was a very caring father and husband: neighbors recalled how he himself put his children to bed and sang lullabies to them. In 1941, all men of military age were taken to military field camps, where they were to receive the basics of military training. Vasily Alexandrovich was also taken away in May. Leaving "for just a month" (as he assumed), the great-grandfather made plans for the future: he was going to mow hay for the cow himself and dreamed of how he would lead his eldest son to first grade in the fall. But these dreams were not destined to come true. On June 22, 1941, the Great Patriotic War began. Vasily Alexandrovich, together with a unit, was urgently sent to the front, where he fought until October 1941. The last battle (according to the stories of one of the soldiers who returned to the village), he took on the Dniester River. Replacing the deceased commander, he covered the crossing over the bridge of the soldiers of his unit. There, on the bridge, a fellow villager saw him for the last time. Then an explosion thundered and the bridge collapsed ... Then there was a retreat and in a hurry and confusion they did not begin to find out whether he died or not. A notification came to his native village: he was missing. Relatives wrote requests, but they remained unanswered. The name of my great-grandfather is written on the obelisk of memory in the village of Vedrovo. This obelisk was erected by fellow villagers after the war. Thanks to our great-grandfathers and grandfathers for the peaceful sky overhead. I consider my great-grandfather a hero, although he did not have orders and medals, he is still a hero. After all, the hero is not only the one who has titles and awards, but also the one who has completely given his debt to the Motherland.
