Rank: Senior sergeant. Branch of service: army, air force (except marine aviation), the coast guard, the troops of the NKVD border troops. Division: 84th rifle Kharkiv red banner division named after the Tula proletariat. My grandfather, Dmitry Pavlovich Bessonov, was born on February 4, 1919 in the village of Podgornaya in the Georgievsky district of the Stavropol territory in a Cossack family. In November 1939, he was called up for active service in the red army. Participated in the Finnish campaign. On the fronts of the great Patriotic war from the first days. He fought in the 382nd order of Kutuzov rifle regiment of the 84th rifle Kharkiv red banner division. From June 1941 to August 1942, he took part in the battles on the North-Western front. From August 1942 to February 1943, he was on the Stalingrad front. For participation in the battle of Stalingrad, he was awarded the medal "for the defense of Stalingrad". From may to December 1943, he continued his military career on the Steppe front, where he took part in the battle of Kursk. From December 1943 to December 1944, he fought on the 2nd Ukrainian front. He took part in the liberation of right-Bank Ukraine, Moldova, and Romania. From December 1944, as part of the 3rd Ukrainian front, he liberated Hungary, the Eastern part of Austria. He was awarded the medal "for the capture of Budapest". In January 1945, during the Balaton operation, he participated in the battles for sekeshfehervar. For courage and heroism, he was presented with the medal "for bravery", but in the award lists, the award was replaced with the medal"for military merit". He finished his military career in Belgrade with the rank of senior Sergeant. Awarded the order of the Patriotic war II degree, jubilee medals. After the war, he worked on the collective farm "Podgornensky". He was a Jack – of-all-trades-bricklayer, carpenter, and stove maker. Many of the houses in the village were built by his hands. He died on March 26, 1996. He was buried at home in the village of Podgornaya.
