Durdy Berkeliev
In 1940, Durdy Berkeliev was drafted into the army. He was sent to the war with the Finns. After the end of the Finnish campaign, they were transferred to Murmansk, then to the Western Front with the Germans.
Berkeliev Durdy with weapons in hands defended our Homeland. When asked about the war, he always answered unequivocally: "I Don't want to tell, I want to forget, and you forget, this is not a good thing – the war!" It was difficult to persuade him to tell anything about the war. Durdy Berkeliev was excellent shooter, for well-aimed hit the target was rated as the "Voroshilov Sharpshooter".
Once at leisure, he told us about his injury: "It was necessary to take the height. But there was a German sniper on it. We all lay down, afraid to raise our heads. They would have been shot immediately. It so happened that the squad leader was next to me. He knew that I was a good shooter and asked me to "remove" the sniper from the height. I took the request as an order. I shot the German sniper. My bullet "removed" the sniper from the path, and the German's bullet hit my helmet, bounced off, and cut through my shoulder. My comrades sprang to their feet and charged; the road was cleared, the Germans captured. The squad leader asked me: "Are you alive?" to which I replied: "No, I'm lost!" I still have a very deep scar on my shoulder."
Durdy Berkeliev was taken to a hospital in Vologda. He returned to the unit after a final recovery. He was awarded the rank of a Guards Sergeant.
D. Berkeliev served in intelligence, was a Squad Commander on the 1st Belorussian Front.
Together with his unit, he took part in the battles for the city of Berlin .
Durdy Berkeliev returned home in 1946. Bright memory to those who did not return from the battlefield and those who passed away after the war.
For their courage in the fight against the Nazi invaders, Durdy Berkeliev was awarded the Order of Glory and the Order of the Patriotic War and medals For Courage, For the Defense of Soviet Arctic, For the Capture of Berlin, For the victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, had the gratitude of his command For the Capture of Berlin, For the Breakthrough of the German Defense and Attack on Berlin.
After returning from the war, Durdy Berkeliev finally saw his six-year-old son for the first time. Subsequently, he had 5 more sons and four daughters. For a year, he worked as a history teacher. Former Communist. Then he was appointed Chairman of the collective farm.
