Medvedev became a legend when he was still alive: a famous Chekist and scout, the commander of the famous guerrilla detachments of the separate motorized rifle brigade of special purpose of the NKVD, writer, Hero of the Soviet Union. From August 1941 to January 1942, D. N. Medvedev was the head of the “Mitya” operational group. In September 1941, the detachment was thrown behind enemy lines and operated on the territory of the present Smolensk, Bryansk and Mogilev regions.
