Once, performing an important mission on an ambulance plane, taking out seriously wounded soldiers, he was attacked by two enemy fighters. The plane was badly damaged, and the pilot was seriously wounded in the leg. Despite the serious injury and damage to the aircraft, Gavrilov D.S. skillfully brought the plane out of the fire, planted it in the forest and saved the lives of the wounded. After the Great Patriotic War, Gavrilov D.S. moved to civil aviation. Passed training in helicopter piloting. He worked as a commander of a helicopter detachment.
