My grandfather strenuously did not like to talk about the war, although we, grandchildren, pestered him with questions. He had a serious wound in the arm on September 26, 1942, leaving the encirclement, according to Evdokia, his eldest daughter, somewhere from under Staraya Rusa. Gangrene began and the hand was taken away. He returned home to his village after the hospital without a left arm as a Group II invalid. When he left for the war, he already had two children, a girl Evdokia, born in 1938 and son Nikolai, born in 1939. After he returned, in 1944 another daughter was born, my mother, Claudia, and son Ivan in 1950. Grandfather was very worried that he chad lost his arm. Although he did as much with one hand as the other man can't do with two. _x000D_
When my grandfather passed away in 1984, we realized how much he did for the family and could not understand how this was possible. _x000D_
Now I regret I know so little about the wartime moments in my grandfather's life. There is a decaying certificate that he served in 7th Guards Division in 26th Infantry Regiment and was in the evacuation hospital 3101 on recovery from 11/08/1942, and on 12/24/1942. The EG 3101 commission recognized him unfit for military service due to absence of the left hand. _x000D_
My grandfather loved the Victory Day holiday very much. He put on his jacket with the Order of the Red Star and medals and went to the regional center for the Festival. He always came happy and very satisfied. _x000D_
In the village grandfather was respected. He was kind and helpful person. But he was also a brave man. Being without an arm, he could rush into a fight, protecting the weakest. I was very much impressed by it when I was a 15-year-old girl. Even then I understood what my Grandfather is worth. For some reason, there is no information about him on the sites of memory. _x000D_
We tried to enter the number of the combat award (Order of the Red Star) in order to find information on the award. I would very much like to know the details of his combat path.
