Zaitseva Evdokia Alekseevna (Participant of the Great Patriotic War) was born on June 25, 1920 in the village of Chernava, Ivanteevsky district, Saratov region. She graduated from the 4th grade of a rural school. When she was ten years old, after the death of her mother, she had to leave her studies: she had to work helping her father. Evdokia nursed her younger brother, worked in the garden. It was physically hard for the girl in the field: water for vegetables was carried in buckets, they grew potatoes, dug and loaded bags into cars. Her father was sent to front, and Evdokia Alekseevna went to the front as a volunteer when turned 21 years old. After a short training, she served as an Ordinary Anti-Aircraft Machine gun crew. The girls had to carry heavy weapons and ammunition by themselves. Evdokia was strong, hardy, distinguished by a fighting character, so she was sent to the defence of Leningrad. There she served as an anti-aircraft gunner, worked as a driver on the "road of life." She carried ammunition, medicine and food for the blockade. Twice the shell hit the car, twice it was rescued from the icy water. She was injured. After the hospital, Evdokia returned to the front and fought until Victory. After the end of the war, Evdokia Alekseevna returned to her native village, got married. When her husband died, she moved to the city of Pugachev, Saratov region, worked as a cook in a canteen. The veteran was awarded the Order of the “Patriotic War of 2nd class”, jubilee medals.
