On January 12, 1942 Klavdia Ivanovna volunteered for the front and was assigned to the 89th Rifle Division of Yerevan, which in 1943 was awarded the honorary title "Tamanskaya" for its successful fighting on the Taman Peninsula. The battle way of Klavdia Ivanovna passed through Essentuki, Temryuk. In autumn 1943, the division in which she fought, conducts fierce battles on the Taman Peninsula, and in December of the same year, it was already fighting on the Crimean Peninsula - in Kerch. Klavdiya Ivanovna recalled: 'In one of the battles, when I crawled after wounded fighter, German tank started to iron us, and I managed to hide in the funnel. The tankers perfectly saw that there was a girl with a red cross on the bag in front of them, but still they continued to press and spin the tank on this funnel. My fellow fighters saw me ironed by the tank and did not hope to see me alive. The commander could not stand and gave the order to counterattack to repel this piece of the earth and to bury me humanly, with soldier's honors. When they excavated the funnel, I was alive, but was unconscious, I miraculously survived, and was urgently sent to the medical officer. After a while, the front again. I was seriously wounded in the left shoulder. As a result of this wound - a huge lacerated scar, until the end of her life she was never able to wear sleeveless dresses. Having recovered from the wound, she caught up with her division already in Berlin, signed on the Reichstag wall and returned home. It is worth noting Klavdia Ivanovna's kindness and incredible readiness for sacrifice. She exchanged her alcohol and swag, which were given to all fighters, for stew, condensed milk, soap and sent parcels to Tikhoretsk to her younger brother. Then he told her: "You saved my life with your parcels.” For Taman, for Crimea and for many fights Klavdia Antonenko was awarded with the Order of the Red Star; the Order of Glory III degree; medals "For bravery"; "For the defense of the Caucasus", "For combat services". On August 23, 1945, she was awarded the Medal "For the Defense of the Caucasus" by Mikhail Ivanovich Kalinin in the Kremlin.
