He was drafted into the Red Army in 1940 by the Murom Comissariat of the Gorky region. From October 14, 1940 to June 15, 1941 he was a cadet of the school of junior commanders, from June 15, 1941 to January 15, 1942 he was a gun commander of the artillery battalion of the Barabash fortified region of the Leningrad Military District. _x000D_ From January 15, 1942, he served on the Western Front in the mortar battalion of 121st Separate Rifle Brigade as commander of the mortar squad. From November 30, 1942 to September 15, 1945 he was a commander of the ammunition platoon of 681st Infantry Regiment of 133rd Infantry Division in the Western and 2nd Ukrainian Fronts. _x000D_ On February 12, 1943, by Order 09 / n, he was awarded the medal "For Military Merit". The award list states: "during offensive operations on December 17, 1942, under heavy enemy mortar fire, delivered shells to the battery and ensured the uninterrupted operation of the guns." _x000D_ By order 018 / n of May 6, 1944, he was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War, 1st degree. The award list states: "for the period of offensive battles from March 10 to March 30, 1944, he uninterruptedly provided the battery with ammunition, despite the impassable roads and spring thaw.
