In 1941 he graduated from the 9th grade of a Secondary School in the city of Evpatoria, he wanted to go to the front, they did not take it because of his age. His father, Isaac Podolsky, sent his son and wife out of the city, while he himself stayed with the plant. Until the last days he was engaged in the evacuation of equipment and documents, he did not have time to leave, he was shot by the Germans. Vadim, (that was the name of his comrades at School, and then they called him all his life), having left with his mother to evacuate to the Urals, entered a Military School there, received the rank of Lieutenant and went to the front. In the battles for Poland, he was seriously wounded, was in the hospital for a long time, almost lost a leg, was discharged and sent as a military Commander to School, where he met his future wife. In 1947 he was again recognized as fit for military service and drafted into the army. He served in the Railway Troops. He traveled with his large family (wife, mother and 5 children) across the entire Soviet Union (Dnepropetrovsk, Irtysh-Ob, Siberia, Ural, Transbaikalia, BAM). He served honestly, respected soldiers and officers, he was always loved and respected by those around him, was a political worker, always in the spotlight. Having begun his service in wartime as a Lieutenant, he was demobilized from the army as a Colonel, then worked at a School as a Military Commander. He loved children, actively participated in the social life of the school and the city. And everyone loved and respected him. I must say that his whole family was like that, in all military towns where they happened to live, people always came to us for advice, consolation, asking for help, with various questions. Mom, Podolskaya Anna Maksimovna, worked all her life at school in elementary grades, fiddled with her children all the time, and not only in class. All her children were good, she did not say a bad word about any of them. And even in retirement, she taught children to read and count, wherever she was, in the yard, on the train, on the beach ... She also was handy with a needle, and at one time was an instructor in cutting and sewing circle. Our grandmother, father's mother, Podolskaya Dina Zinovievna, did not officially work anywhere, but she also always took care of children, she sang well, cooked great, and loved to treat and share culinary recipes with neighbors. It was always fun in our house, there were a lot of guests, dad played the guitar, sang, danced, and played various games.
