Rank: Lieutenant_x000D_ Branch of troops: Ground Forces, Air Force (except for naval aviation), coastal service, NKVD troops, border troops_x000D_ Subdivision: 67th Guards Rifle Vitebsk Red Banner Division. _x000D_ My uncle, Guard Lieutenant Nikolai Nikolayevich Skugar, was born in Taganrog on May 11, 1923. He worked at an aircraft plant in the city of Komsomolsk-on-Amur. He went to the front as a volunteer in 1942. Place of service: 6th Guards Army 199th Guards Rifle Regiment of 67th Guards Rifle Division. _x000D_ 67th Guards Division was a part of the 23rd Guards Rifle Corps of the 6th Guards Army from May 1943 until the end of the war. The Division took part in the Battle of Kursk Bulge, took up defenses on the southern face of the Kursk salient. In the course of the Belgorod-Kharkov offensive operation, the Division in combat operations contributed to the liberation of Belgorod and Kharkov. _x000D_ From October 1943, the Division was part of the Baltic Front, and from October 20 was at the 2nd Baltic Front. It fought in the area of the city of Nevel, took up defenses north-west of the city until early January 1944, and then took part in the defeat of the enemy's Nevel group. _x000D_ Guards Lieutenant Skugar Nikolai Nikolayevich died from a head wound on 01/01/1944 in the surgical field-field hospital No. 2329 (HPPG No. 2329). Primary burial place is the Kalinin Region, Velikoluksky district, village Vorokhoby, to the north, forest edge, mass grave No. 10. Voronezh Region Borisoglebsk city, city cemetery, mass grave, No. 919 was reburied. A total of 1280 buried.
