Sobyanin Gavriil Epifanovich

Rank: Junior Seargeant, Hero of the Soviet Union_x000D_ Branch of troops: Ground Forces _x000D_ Subdivision: Kalinin 48th Ropsha Ropsha Red Banner Division _x000D_ Sobyanin Gavriil Epifanovich was participant of the WWI and the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945, Hero of the Soviet Union. Gavriil Epifanovich Sobyanin was born in the village of Shaitanovka, Cherdyn District, Perm Region. In 1914-1916 Gavriil Epifanovich took part in the First World War. In 1918, his family moved to the Berezovsky District for permanent residence. When the Great Patriotic War began, in August 1942 he volunteered for the front. He served as a sniper rifleman of the 301st Infantry Regiment of the 48th Ropsha Red Banner Division named after M.I. Kalinin of 2nd Baltic Front. He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner, medals "For Courage" and "For Military Merit." He passed away on December 23, 1944 in the combat for the stronghold of Garozas in the Libava District of the Latvian Soviet Socialist Republic. _x000D_ For courage and devotion to the oath on June 29, 1945, Sobyanin Gavriil Epifanovich was posthumously awarded the title of “Hero of the Soviet Union” with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal. In September 2009, the archival department of the administration of the Berezovsky District invited the general educational institutions of the district to take part in the search and research action “Places of military glory of our fellow countrymen during the Great Patriotic War”, dedicated to 65th anniversary of Victory. The activists of the local club under the leadership of Lydia Volkova have found the burial place of the Hero of the Soviet Union Gabriel Epifanovich Sobyanin. It is located in Latvia in the village of Kursishi, Saldus Region, at the Kursishi brotherly military cemetery.
