Subbotin, Mikhail Alekseevich

Rank: Sergeant_x000D_ Division: 306th Ribshevskaya Rifle Red Banner Division. _x000D_ _x000D_ Subbotin Mikhail Alekseevich was born in the village of Repnikha, Varnavinsky district, Kostroma region in 1903. He was the eldest son in a large peasant family. Since childhood he had worked hard: looked after the younger ones and helped his parents. He graduated from school in Varnavino, then worked in kolkhoz in his native Repnikha. _x000D_ From the first days of the war, he was in the army. Earlier, Mikhail carefully studied the machine gun. More than once he showed his skill in combats, was considered an excellent machine gunner. With well-aimed fire, Mikhail Alekseevich helped his comrades to carry out important missions. _x000D_ In the initial period of the war, our army retreated. The enemy was strong. In 1943, 306th Rifle Division, where Mikhail served, fought fierce combats in Belarus near the town of Surazh, Vitebsk region. The Germans approached from all sides. The situation was critical. To save the Regiment, someone had to stop the enemies. _x000D_ The commander ordered Mikhail Alekseevich to stay and cover the regiment's retreat with machine gun fire. And this order was carried out with dignity. Many enemies found death there. Saving his comrades, he died. Mikhail fulfilled the order of the great Commander Suvorov: "Die yourself, but help your comrade." _x000D_ Subbotin Mikhail Alekseevich was buried in mass grave No. 35 near the village of Kotovo, Surazh district, Vitebsk region. The whole family is proud of the feat of Mikhail Alekseevich, and I try to be worthy of his memory.
