Rank: Chief Petty Officer, Starshina _x000D_ SubDivision: 179th Rifle Vitebsk Red Banner Division _x000D_ He was born in 1906 in the village of Taldyki (Ukrainian Taldiki), Kiev province. He lived in the village of Burlin, Ural region. He worked as a salesman in a general store, then as a baker. He was arrested on October 29, 1929 by the Ural OGPU, convicted by the OGPU troika on January 3, 1930 under Articles 58-7, 58-8, 58-10 of the RSFSR Criminal Code to exile for 3 years. _x000D_ He was rehabilitated on June 10, 1989 by the WKO prosecutor's office by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Court of the USSR dated January 16, 1989. _x000D_ He had been on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War since July 25, 1941. He fought in 234th and 259th Rifle Regiments of 179th Rifle Vitebsk Red Banner Division. He mastered the sniper business. He often went out on a "hunt" together with the legendary sniper, Hero of the Soviet Union, Kvachantiradze Vasily Shalvovich. _x000D_ On August 11, 1942 he was wounded. On April 18, 1943, a sniper of 259th Infantry Regiment (179th Infantry Division, 43rd Army, Kalinin Front) Corporal KD Smolensky was presented by the unit command to the first award for the destruction of 82 enemy soldiers and officers. _x000D_ By order No. 40 of May 11, 1943, he was awarded the Order of the Red Banner for 43rd Army. On October 18, 1944, a sniper of 259th Infantry Regiment (179th Infantry Division, 43rd Army, 1st Baltic Front) Senior Sergeant K. D. Smolensky was presented by the unit command to a new award for distinction in combats for the Misa station on September 18, 1944. _x000D_ By the Order No. 54 of October 27, 1944 of the 179th Infantry Division he was awarded the Order of Glory, 3rd degree. On December 13, 1944, a sniper of 259th Infantry Regiment (179th Vitebsk Infantry Division, 43rd Army, 1st Baltic Front) Senior Sergeant KD Smolensky was presented by the unit command to the Order of Lenin for the destruction of 404 enemy soldiers and officers. _x000D_ By order No. 3 of January 14, 1945, he was awarded the Order of Glory, 2nd degree for 43rd Army. He ended the war with the rank of starshina, destroying 414 fascists and becoming one of the best snipers of the Great Patriotic War. After the war, he worked as a metalworker at the machine-building plant, in the city of Frunze, Kirghiz SSR. He raised two daughters and two sons, one of whom was an adopted orphan who lost his parents during the war. He helped to raise grandchildren. He died on November 25, 1971. He was buried in Bishkek, at the "Old Cemetery", near the «Leather Factory».
