In the family album, I managed to find two photos taken during that trip. We now know that Ivan Ilyich Denisov is buried in a mass grave. It turns out that this grave appeared as a result of serious fighting. 600 Soviet soldiers are buried in it. In the post-war period, the remains of soldiers were moved here from mass graves located in the vicinity of the city of Polessk. The name of my great-uncle Ivan Ilyich Denisov is also immortalized on the memorial plate of this monument. Even on the Internet, we found photocopies of reports about the irretrievable losses of the 319th Dvina rifle division of the red banner twice. Ivan Denisov served in this division. The document is now in the Central archive of the Ministry of defense. I learned from the report that Ivan Ilyich was called up for service at the age of 18 by the Velikiye Luki district military Commissariat on February 22, 1942.
