After the war, he studied, became a history teacher, and went to work in Siberia. The fate of the missing older brother did not give rest to Nikolai Ivanovich, and in 1957 he began searching for his traces. Nikolai Ivanovich began to send requests to the archives, to Komsomolskaya Pravda, and tried to find his brother's colleagues. Raisa Abakumova, a former paramedic of the 125th rifle regiment, was the first to respond from Oryol. She knew Lieutenant Davydov well, but before the war she was transferred to an army hospital and on June 22, 1941, she did not see or hear from Peter. At the same time, R. Abakumova gave N. I. Davydov the address of the former senior military doctor of the 125th regiment M. N. Gavrilkin – he, it turns out, lived near Yegoryevsk, in the village. Ryazanovsky. There was an exchange of emails, but there is almost no new data. According to M. N. Gavrilkin, Lieutenant Davydov and his wife did not live in the fortress, but outside its territory, in the houses of the command staff. There, he turned to the Museum for information about his brother. And suddenly it turned out that Lieutenant p. I. Davydov was listed among the dead defenders of the fortress! However, there were no details about this. But the Museum staff found the address of S. S. Shikanov, who in 1941 was the commander of a machine-gun company of the 125th rifle regiment and was the direct military commander of Peter Davydov, as well as his fellow student at the Moscow military school. Nikolai Ivanovich sent a letter to S. S. Shikanov. In a reply message, he reported that in the last days before the war, their unit was in a field camp, where they were firing machine guns. On the evening of June 21, Saturday, Lieutenant Davydov asked to go home until morning. Here she met her husband's family for the first time – her own family.
