The division under Rodin's command covered the retreat of the 18th and 12th armies (southern front). During the fighting in the area of the city of Gaisin, the division was surrounded, during the exit from which it caused significant damage to the enemy, and during the fighting for Poltava, Rodin was seriously wounded. In March 1942, he was appointed to the post of commander of the 52nd tank brigade, and in June-to the post of commander of the 28th tank corps, which at the end of July took part in a front-line counterattack against the enemy, who broke through to the Don northern of the city of Kalach-on-Don. At the end of August, the corps was withdrawn to the reserve of the Stalingrad front, after which it was included in the Volga military district. In October was appointed chief “Armored troops” of the southwestern front, and in April 1943 as commander of the 30th Ural volunteer tank corps, was in reserve of the Supreme command, and in July included in the 4-th Panzer army, after which he participated during the Oryol offensive operation. In September, the corps under the command of Rodin was withdrawn to the reserve of the Supreme high command, where in October the 10th guards were transformed. In February 1944, he was included in the 1st Ukrainian front, after which he took part in the Proskurov-Chernivtsi offensive operation, during which an inaccurate message was transmitted to the army headquarters about the occupation of Volochinsk station. Despite conducting successful combat operations of the Rodin corps, due to an wrong report, he was removed from his post and on April 25, 1944, he was appointed commander of the 6th training tank brigade of officers, which he commanded until the war ended.
