Fyodor Verchenko was born in 1907 in the village of Borodin, chernyansky district, Kursk region (now Belgorod region), in a family of simple peasants. He was the second child of eight children. At an early age, having lost his father, he became the main breadwinner of the entire large family, plowed, sowed, and harvested. He first learned to read and write from his older brother Prokofy, who graduated from primary school in the village of Chernyanka and later became the first collective farm accountant in the village of Borodin. In 1929, at the direction of I. V. Stalin's "on the elimination of illiteracy among the population" went to study at Borodino elementary school, and in 1930 graduated ahead of schedule with honors. He was talented in any work. He worked as a carpenter on a collective farm, and then managed the material warehouse of the collective farm. In 1930, he married Ekaterina Yakovlevna Makhnenko. It was a great love for life. And in 1931, the first daughter, Elena, was born, and in 1937 the second daughter, Maria. In two years, he built a large spacious house with his own hands, planted a garden, and got a subsidiary farm. He loved his family more than anything else in the world. In 1941, on June 23, the second day after the attack on our country of the USSR by the German-fascist invaders, the 1154th rifle regiment of the 344th rifle Roslavl red banner division was called up to the front and sent to the front line. He fought in Belarus and in the Smolensk direction (from his own letters from the front), where the Nazis held the main direction to Moscow. From August 1943, he took part in the Smolensk offensive, advancing South of Spas-Demensk. During the war, private Verchenko was a miner (he mined bridges and blew them up when the Nazis attacked). On September 3, 1943, at the age of 37, he died in a fierce battle for the liberation of the village of Rylinka, Roslavl district of the Smolensk region, as evidenced by the notice (funeral).
