From the memoirs of Pavel Parilov: "The battles for Berlin were heavy. In our brigade alone, 19 people were killed and 63 wounded. By its actions, the brigade suppressed 89 artillery and mortar batteries, 44 pillboxes, 35 tanks and 244 strong points… By the end of the day on May 1 I received orders to move the detachment's battle lines to the location of the 102nd Guards Rifle Regiment… The Imperial Chancery was only 1700-1800 meters away… At dusk, accompanied by heavy automatic and machine-gun fire (to muffle the noise of running engines) we placed our guns on the streets adjacent to the canal, so that the building could be seen.
