Rank: Lieutenant Colonel Type of Troops: Signal Corps Nikolai Panfilovich Khazov was born on December 27, 1913 in a peasant family in the village of Bolshoi Vyas, Luninsky District, Penza Region. Russian. In 1929 he graduated from 7 classes. In 1933 he was drafted into the Soviet Army by the Luninsky Military Commissariat. In 1936 he graduated from the military infantry school in Kazan. He took part in the battles at Lake Khasan in 1938. Was injured. On the fronts of the Great Patriotic War from June 1943 he fought on the Southwestern and 3rd Ukrainian fronts. Wounded three times. Commander of the 172nd Guards Rifle Regiment of the 57th Guards Rifle Division of the 8th Guards Army of the 1st Belorussian Front, Guard Lieutenant Colonel. Pursuing the retreating enemy, my regiment made a 500 km march in 17 days. and on January 26, 1945, he reached the banks of the Warta River, knocking out the enemy from their positions and ensuring the encirclement and defeat of a large enemy grouping in the city of Poznan. For two and a half months, the fighting continued to expand the bridgehead. The regiment suffered heavy losses. At three o'clock in the morning on May 2, the Berlin garrison laid down its arms. An inexplicable silence fell over the city. The great battle ended with the complete victory of the Soviet Army. On March 24, 1945, Nikolai Panfilovich Khazov was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. But even after the Victory, our fellow countryman did not take off his shoulder straps. In 1949 he graduated from the Military Academy. MV Frunze, in 1955 - one course at the Military Academy of the General Staff named after K. E. Voroshilov. With the rank of retired colonel, Nikolai Panfilovich lived and worked in Moscow as a senior engineer at the Research Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences. For his services to the Fatherland he was awarded the Order of Lenin, four Orders of the Red Banner, the Order of Suvorov, 3rd degree, two orders of the Red Star, and the Medal for Military Merit. He was buried in the village of Bolshoy Vyas, and a bust of the Hero was installed in Lunino.
